Me?
I'd deal with it (buy cans of pet deoderizer to spray and vacuum up from the rug). Granny's not gonna' be there one day, I'd want the memories at almost any cost.

Sorry, my dear, but Adam hit it right on....Just deal with it! She is your Grandmother. She travels with her dog. It's not like she's moving in or anything, she is just going to stay for awhile and visit and then she'll leave. Now of you had allergies or something of that sort, then I could see telling her that her pooch gives you a reaction of some sort, but you may just have to suck it up. When I got my first apartment, there was no smoking allowed in the building, and my grannie smokes like a chimney! And she didn't give a hoot about the rules of my apartment. AND she is my grannie, and I respect her. So I sucked it up...quite literally. After she left, I opened up all the windows and sprayed down my place with a can of Lysol. A small price to pay for a visit with my Grannie!! Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer....

Overlook it! If you truly love Granny you will do whatever it takes to spend the time you have with her. Someday you will look back and laugh about the whole situation with the dog, and be glad you didn't let it bother you because this could be the best (or even) last visit you have!

How foolish not to think of it. Set Granny & the dog outside
until the visit is over. Meanwhile, you decide what you love more, Granny or your carpet!

Get a baby gate for your kitchen and explain to granny that someone that is there a lot is allergic to dogs and whatever they are allergic to, stays in carpet - pick the dog up and put it in the kitchen while you say it. Next time, she probably wont bring it.

It's your house, your rules. Tell Granny what your rules are. If she doesn't like them or won't make other accommodations, then she can go home. She's old enough to know better concerning being a guest at someone's house, so her behaviour in bringing her dog is uncalled for.

probably the wisest thing you could do would be to grin and bear it. granny won't be around forever. carpets can be cleaned/replaced.

if she brought the dog, she probably considers it a blood relative. perhaps - your cousin. it's nice she comes to see you.

Ohhh... I feel for you! My Grandma had the ugliest little rat dog you've ever seen! It's name was Tippy and my Grandma would say, "We brought Tippy with us because he just loves you so much!" I HATED that ugly little hair ball, but I loved my Grandma and she loved that stupid dog so I never said a thing; I just smiled and did a lot of pretending.

You need to be honest with her. Explain to her how you feel & be gentle, but firm. Most grandmas will do there best to acomadoate you. Remember! there is nothing like a grandmas love. Unless you have one that trys to make you feel guilty about everything. In that case, just be firm or let it go.

I woould tell her nicely that you do not like dogs in your house. And explain to her that if she wishes to visit in the future to do so without her beloved dog.

At the end of the day it is your home and she should respect your wishes.
