I know how to tell West (When the sun sets) and East (When the sun rises) without the use of a compass, but I was just wondering how to tell which way is North and South (Again without the use of a compass)?

Also, if North and South change depending on where you are on the Earth?

if you know east and west then you should be able to tell which way north and south are.. if your facing into the sun set, then north is going to be on your right side, and if your facing the sunrise, north will be on your left side...

North is always north as well as all the others; however, when confused check your time. The sun raises in the east and sets in the west. again checking time you can also look at shadows which will indicate your direction of travel. Now if you do not have the sun to help you determine which direction your going check for the moss on trees; it will always grow on the north and east side of the trunk, if your near a river you can look for the flow direction --- there is only one river in the United states that flows south to north and it's called the new river located in Imperial valley coming out of Mexico in to the Salten Sea located just south of Palm Springs, Ca. If your on a Interstate or Highway keep in mind that all Roads are identified by odd or even (i.e. Interstate 15 is a north/south while Interstate 20 is east and west) in other words if the road is odd it's north and south and even is east and west. With the same idea in mind if the highway mile markers are going high to low (i.e. 100 to 99) and your on a odd number road than your heading south where if its a even number road your heading west. EXCEPT for the state of New York (its the only state that has everything backwards). The Big and Little Dipper and north star will always be to the North. There is hundreds of ways to determine which way is up, down, right or left; just like north, south, east and west. Just give it a little thought and you'll find your way.

One thing I learned as a kid was that moss grows on the north side of trees in the Northern Hemisphere because it's dark back there. I heard later that it's actually lichen, not moss, but it might still help you find north.

The North Star is always in the northern sky and can be seen from the northern hemisphere

...and North and South never change unless you happen to be standing EXACTLY on one of the poles - in which case, every direction is south if you're standing on the north pole, and every direction is north if standing on the south pole.
