I agree with those who said to check other bakeries' prices, but it's not absolutely necessary to undercut them. Try to find other ways to differentiate yourself instead of cutting prices. I disgree that you will necessarily lose money the first year ... don't start out with this assumption. Instead of starting a new bakery, you should also check on the possiblity of buying an existing one.

First, visit other stores similar of what you are trying to emulate.
Second, know your costs. Rent, utilities, insurance, taxes...
And most important two, your demand and location.

Businesses rarely make any profit in their first (few) year(s).

Undercutting competitors may get you more business, but you can only afford to loose so much per product.

well I would take a look and see what other bakeries in the immediate locality are selling theirs for and slightly undercut them if possible.

It's about quality. People will go out of their way,and pay a little more if it's made well with quality ingredients.
