I'm NOT asking about the best lesson she taught you,but rather that YOU learned by watching her

My mother was a weak woman who stayed married to an abusive man for years. She clung to him like the father she never had, desparately wanting to believe he was good. We had everything money can buy & she always used to say 'Im very lucky to be married to your father.' Still to this day she will not accept or acknowledge his abusive behaviour.
What did I learn by watching her?
To never allow any man to abuse me or my children.
To be strong & independent.
To speak my truth & never be bought with material posessions.
And despite everything, to forgive.

Unconditional love, affection, patience, respect, compassion, courtesy, class, rules of etiquette, charm, sophistication, style, quick thinking, being diplomatic, being able to have critical thinking backed by an analytical mind, cooking, sewing, nurturing, knitting, painting, drawing, singing, gardening, dancing, all kinds of hand crafts, being able to write and read when I was five, having faith, dignity, honesty, loyalty, grace...

these are the top few, there is just not enough space here to write it all.

I learned how not to take any bullshitz from any man. I learned how to be independent of and for myself. I learned how to live and cope with my environment. Most of all I learned how to love and be a mom.

I learned guidance, responsibility, honesty, caring, how to laugh and have fun. I learned that life is not what you always expect and that changes will occur. It is how you handle the changes that makes you a better individual for the rest of your life.

When getting change from a clerk, my mom would always recount it right in front if the clerk. Many times... she was short changed, and the red faced clerk would stammer around trying to make excuses. Then she would report it to the manager. My mom was not a person to be taken advantage of in any way !!!!

I learned that people aren't perfect. Growing up, I always thought that she was, but then as I went to college, I saw how she could be inconsistent about some things and even downright wrong. I don't hate her for it; in fact, I'm glad. It was a hard realization to come to, but a very necessary one. I think it'll help me in my search for love, as I'll know that there isn't anyone who can be 100% what I want.

How not be a selfish, lazy, violent, child abusing person. To accomplish this I just took everything I saw her do and did the opposite.
