I'm not going to lie and say I'd give it all away because my first goal would be to take care of my family and myself so I'd split whatever amount 4 ways My dad, my mom, my sister & her family and myself. Then I'd put enough in an IRA where I could live off the interest generated and from that whatever I didn't spend on food, gas, insurance, utilities, a few other necessities and a few extras like Dish, books and internet service I'd give to charities after researching and making sure the highest percentage of the money goes to the people (or animals) in need. Whatever I have in the bank I would also leave 1/2 to the charities of my choice when I die, the other half would go to my niece and nephew. Of course whatever I didn't spend of what didn't go into an IRA, I would give to charities as well. As for time I'd give, I'd probably wait a couple of years and then get involved more in likely at my local humane society and perhaps other charities as well.

what do you consider rich? anything above 1 million gets shared with family members. above 3 million and i would include friends. to donate to charities, it would have to be over 5 million.
the lottery here in michigan gives you 2 options. you can be paid over a 25 yr span or take lump sum. if you take lump sum, by the time you also pay taxes you end up with about a third of what you won.
so if you win a 10 million dollar jackpot, you end up with just under 4 million.

Yes I would choose a charity and give. But I believe that it's better to do charitable work rather than to just give money. It gives a person a feeling of humbleness. Everyone always talk about what good works they would do if they had the money. It doesn't take money to help others.

If i one powerball...got 300 million....keep at least 50 million to myself. Give 50 million to homeless shelter or someother charity. Give 50 million to animal arks and animal places. And i dont know what i would do with the rest. Save some for college. Go on huge shopping spreee and let friends get whatever they pleased.

I would pay all of my bills, put a lot in CDs and mutual funds, and set up a fund through a local church to pay expenses for single women with children throughout the year. I'd also anonymously buy a new, state of the art facility for the county social service operation, which is currently a dump.

Well I could have been rich, but I have still been helping other people in need, so I would say that at this point, I would be smarter, and keep it, and build a physics lab.
Then possibly I could help everyone.

I would help out the homeless shelters, because when we were young, my father kicked my mother and all six of her children to the curb for a younger woman. We would have lived on the street if it wasn't for a homeless shelter.
