Sidney Poitier was and always will be one of the most cool actors, whether in Lillies of the Field, In the Heat of the Night, a Patch of Blue, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner or the comedies he did with Harry Belafonte and Bill Cosby.
Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant were all cool.
Mel Gibson has his moments, as does Meryl Streep, but the old ' movie stars' had something the new young movie stars won't ever have.

It all depends upon your personal opinion. The generations will definately play a part in the answer. For instance a 70 or 80 year old would much prefer someone like John Wayne in a western or Randolph Scott. How about Shirley Temple? Someone younger would prefer Brad Pitt or even Mischa Barton so it would be a very personal opinion.

Johnny Depp is one of the coolest actors because he doesn't care what people think or say about him and he knows how to act.

John Cusack - he has been acting for years - you can get a handful of his movies & see him doing, action, comedy, romance & drama & pull them off convincingly, he keeps you entertained in any role he's in - I think he is highly underrated...."Say Anything" is a classic & he was brillant in "The Grifters" - he kicked a.. in "Gross Pointe Blank...."
