Because he thinks he can fool the average fan into believing MLB had no part in the steroid era. Sadly he is correct (for a change), most fans actually believe Bonds is the only cheater and that usage was limited to just a few players. We have fans and media who can simply ignore certain obvious situations as long as the player is "likeable" but everyone loves to bash the villian. I am not excusing Bonds, he so obviously cheated but I am among the people who understand Barry is far from the only cheater in baseball. If 1 guy cheating bothers someone they should have the backbone to acknowledge all the cheaters (and smart people can easily figure out a laundry list of their own) and be an equal opportunity hater or just get over it. Bud certainly didnt mind the McGwire/Sosa home run parade that brought millions of dollars to baseball owners and only the foolhearty believe the owners didnt know about steroid use then (how about guys like Brady Anderson and Louis Gonzalez who went from 10 HR guys to 50 HR guys overnight...never mind the other so obvious ones). Maybe Bud was a user too and his balls shriveled up like what happens to most users (and a lot of other ballless owners who didnt mind the money part of the users game). Maybe Bud should go into the lockerroom after the record is broken and compare testicle sizes with Barry....I bet Bonds balls are still bigger!

In my opinion it's due to his guilty conscientious. He knows that if he and previous owners didn't allow the player's union to get as strong as they did, they perhaps could have cracked down harder on steriods and perhaps Bonds wouldn't be this close to breaking this sacred record.

But then again, if Canseco hadn't been a whistle blower on the whole steroid thing to the public, I wonder if he really would've cared, It had been an issue before both publically and behind closed doors, however it didn't become that big of an issue until Canseco wrote his book and Bonds got closer to breaking the HR record.

So in my opinion Selig feels guilty and partially responsible.

The 'Roid Man isn't legit.

Barry Lamar Bonds hasn't played since the end of the '98 season, and his career total HR's is 411. There's been an impostor in his uniform every since.

Don't, for crying out loud, DON'T let yourself be fooled by negative test results. There are masking agents and they are used extensively. In addition, companies such as BALCO do not exist to manufacture PED's. They exist to constantly tinker with the formulae in order to develop new versions of PED's, versions for which there are no tests available. Use your eyes and you head instead of relying on non-existent tests.

So, why should the Slug go anywhere?

Because he's a douche. But who cares. Selig might be the worst Commish in the history of any league. He's a spine-less ego mainiac who wants us to focus on him rather than the amazing history taking place. I say we stop talking about him and hope he retires and returns to sinking the Brewers into the dirt again.

Bud's a tool and just collecting a paycheck. MLB needs to find a real commissioner who will actually be active. His legacy will be "never stood for anything, he was just there when noone else wanted the job".

Bonds has yet to flunk a steriod test...something that Met's pitcher Guillermo Mota couldn't do. Just some food for thought.

Because he's two-faced...He is the commissioner, but also wants to see HR hitters...because that will make baseball more exciting, and therefore more money...
