I should be thankful but my 3 week baby does very minimal crying. He is healthy, but doesn't crying help with a newborn's muscles, or reflexes.?

Honey, your baby does not need to cry to develop his lungs any more than he needs to bleed to develop his veins! That is silly. I would bet that you are breastfeeding. A happy, content baby does not cry. None of my babies cried except for my adopted daughter. I could not relactate so that I could nurse her and that is why she cried so much. A bottle fed baby has to wait while you fix a bottle and especially at night, by the time you get a bottle ready they have cried to the point where they are inconsolable.
Breastfed babies are so quickly and easily satisfied that they just drift right back to sleep. My baby's whimpered or just made little noises so that I knew they were hungry but other than that, they very, very seldom actually cried.
It means that you are doing a super job and that you have a placid happy baby! Celebrate! You are doing everything right and you and your baby are lucky!
Congratulations and Love and Blessings

"Crying is NOT needed for lung development. In fact, too much crying can be harmful to the brain. Research supporting this is presented in our soon to be released book about sleep.

I just read an article in a dermatology publication that pointed out that shaving hair does NOT cause it to grow in thicker."

"MYTH: A good cry will help develop your baby’s lungs, so don’t rush to pick him up when he starts to wail.

FACT: “Babies’ emotional needs have to be responded to,” says Leduc. “The more you do that in the first three months of life, the more secure they will feel later on.” So by all means, go with your instinct to comfort and soothe your crying baby to the best of your abilities.

As for their lungs? Leduc scoffs: “Crying doesn’t help them at all.” "

Thank your lucky stars and if you are really concerned make sure you ask your doctor about it at your 4 week check-up. Maybe you are just antisapating his needs so he doesn't need to scream & cry. Enjoy the quiet while you can teething time is gonna be with you sooner than you think!! lol

my family always says it helps make their lungs strong. but, in truth, you should not let your infant cry a lot when they are young. this is the most important time to meet his needs so he is confident that you are here for him always! there will be plenty of time to cry later!
