When you and your mom are alone just tell her. Most moms respond to their daughters starting their period in a very positive way. Maybe ask your mom if you guys can do something special together to "celebrate". My mom and I went to a little special place for lunch and did some shopping for a few small presents.

Well I can tell you how my daughter told me.... I was emailing and she came running into my room half crying and half laughing, holding up her underwear and announcing that she got her period. Mind you, we have had lots of open conversations about it.
Just ask to talk to your mom privately and say "Mom, I've now gotten my period and I need some pads"
If you have questions regarding your period, just ask her (she was once in your shoes too). If you cant talk to her, talk to the school nurse.
Just remember, billions of women have been through this exact moment.

When you and your mom are alone, just say "Hey mom, i have something to tell you... i got my period" ... your mom has had her period so she should understand what is going on. You have nothing to be embarressed about, this is a normal part of being a woman. Good Luck and Take Care!

Just tell her, I told my Mom real fast and ran away! I was embarrassed but I'm glad I told her otherwise I would have had to go buy my own pads and tampons.

I think it would be nice for you to tell her you have begun your period..............that you have reached puberty. You will need your mother to help you with the items you need to buy, and it doesn't hurt to have her there, knowing you have cramps, etc., feeling sympathy with you. Mother knows you were going to start, some day. Now, you can tell her you have!
