I've actually experience this before. I tell myself that if that someone is so determined to bring me down, i felt great, honoured in fact. She or he must be either very jealous or envious of me especially since i've never done any harm to them and i am not in the least showy. I'm just being myself. From all my experience it amazes me that people could be so petty or overzealous especially if you have something that they can't bear to see you having it all. Frankly, who has it all. Just because we put on a happy face most of the time they would think you have it all. It trully boils down to envy and jealousy. What I would do.? I would thank them for taking so much trouble to think about me and nothing else. Something about you then that is eating them alive. Isn't it great that they show so much interest in you. If they want to bring you down, you 'respond' by putting yourself 'up' thanks to them.

I have been dealing with this very thing for over a year now. I finally had to give up sell everything I own and leave for a new life elsewhere. It's really sad to see a couple of sick people do the things that have been done over the last year but enough is enough. Life is indeed to short for this stuff, time to start over.

I usually raise my hand first before answering. It's the right thing to do. I don't feel it's very nice to just blurt out the answer because not only are you disrespecting your fellow students, you make the teacher annoyed because they would like to hear from somebody else every once in awhile.

I act like I am hearing impaired or don't hear them at all. When people have to repeat insults, etc. it usually becomes diffused or they get so tired of repeating, they say ofi. THen I remove them from my life as much as possible(say family, etc that you can't remove completely for one reason or another. Also, another tactic that has worked for me,is when they start that crap talk, I say I am leaving now very calmly and do . Same for phone. No audience, no BS.

By "bring me down", I assume that you mean verbally humiliate, or make fun of me, or brand me an idiot. . My stock answer to anyone who has even tried to do any of the above has been: " I bow to your superior ignorance".

The best way to respond to this "someone" is to ignore them! Believe me, that'll really kill them!!!
You'll end up getting them down instead of yourself.
