Just listening to John Murtha on ABC This Week. He says the terrorists are in place because we are in Iraq, and he believes they will leave us alone if we leave.
He mumbled it all in a more fruitcake way, but that was the jist of it.
With the fact that 9-11 happened before we were in Iraq, and the guy that wanted to blow up JFK says he thought up the idea 10 years ago...what is his stance based on?
This guy is worse than my wife. He would rather br right than to be happy.
I personally dont care if the guy ends up right about something, but on this matter, he is SO wrong it has gotten him on national TV.
OK, lets say we all leave Iraq, and turn our heads to all the problems that follow...do the left wingers think the terrorists are going to stop being bad people and go out and get regular jobs?

Murtha is a traitor, he calls our troops Nazi's, the terrorists
have already said that they want to rid the world of infidel's
or those that don't believe the way they do.
Osama Bin Laden bombed the WTC in 1993, there were
several of our embassies bombed around the world, the
USS Cole was attacked and the the WTC destroyed in
2001. the US was not even involved in Iraq until after 9/11.
These acts of terrorism indicate to me that the terrorists are telling us the truth.
When we started bombing Afghanistan, the terrorists
fled into Iraq, we went into Iraq based on UN Resolution 687
and the Iraq Liberation Act (signed by Clinton) . Both
of these sited the numerous UN Resolutions that have
been violated by Saddam Hussein, and the Iraq Liberation
Act was in support of regime change, with this authority
and the overwhelming support of the Congress we
went in to Iraq to fight the terrorists and remove Saddam
Hussein.
We are in Iraq and the terrorists are still plotting against
us, ie F.J.K Airport and Ft.Dix, NJ. Pulling out of Iraq
would show the terrorists that we are weak, and not
united in this effort, they would be bringing the war
to us.
Personally, I would love to see Murtha charged with treason

Well I'm a left-winger, and I don't agree with that statement, assuming you quoted Murtha correctly. Of course, Iraq is not the entire "war on terror", and leaving Iraq does not mean ignoring terrorists and sticking our heads in the sand hoping we won't get attacked again.
Since you mentioned 9/11, it should be pointed out again that the attacks on that day had nothing to do with Iraq. In fact, the Iraq War diverted our troops away from catching the man most responsible for those attacks.
The answer to your question is that left-wingers don't expect us to "turn our heads to all the problems that follow" once we leave Iraq. But leaving our troops there to get killed every day isn't accomplishing anything either.

Iraq is the terrorist training ground. They get on the job training there and move on the other countries. The conflict in Iraq has worsened the threat of terrorism by leaps and bounds. Iraq had no terrorists until we invaded. As far as terror goes, we would have been better off staying in Afghanistan with full force. Now they train in Pakistan as well.
The damage has been done and now we can't leave until Iraq can take over. I have no doubt that the democrats will fight terror, but they will do it in such a way that it won't create more terrorists in the process. There will be many plots to attack the U.S. no matter who wins the election. We have to fight it more intelligently. The global situation has become extremely threatening under the Bush administration. If we continue on this path, we'll have WW III when it was all completely unnecessary.

The far left wingers for the most part.
Many democrats are very rational people, I have a lot of friends who are democrats and I have debated a number of them, so I know they can be rational people.
However on the same token I was born and raised near San Fransisco and Berkley So I am well aware of the far left mindset and I can assure you there is little rational thought that runs through those minds.
Murtha is a nut and he is playing to all the other nuts.
The Far left does not use facts they use emotions and personal opinion. The fact that we have been dealing with terrorism since the 70's escape them, after all Bush was not in office in the 70's so how could there be terrorism?
many in the far left hate this country for giving others the freedoms they them selves thrive on. It is scary to think of the world they truly want where they have absolute control and other who disagree with them live in fear. Many would not admit it but they celebrate Hugo Chavez for doing what he has done, for silencing conservative opposition. The love him for it and it is scary.

Are you talking about the people who make Democrat policy? Like Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry reed, Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry, Al Gore, etc.? Or are you talking about the common people who have been duped into voting for the rich policy makers? There is a HUGE difference.

In answer to your question, "do the left wingers think" I would have to say the answer is "no".
Thinking involves analyzing facts in a logical manner. There's no evidence among liberals of any interest in facts, nor any signs of logical analysis of anything.
