Is spybot good to have on your computer or does it also spy?

I have earthlink protection center and when I downloaded adware spy removal earthlink when they did a scan said it was a threat to my computer and also that spybot was and these two are suppose to be good spy removal programs so now I am confused.

The owner of Spybot Search & Destroy is a personal friend and I would not recommend the program as it pure junk in my opinon. The writers of the program are his students in a University in Germany. Program is 100% clean, just not any good at finding anything other then cookies.

Here are three free program I use. Superantispyware I would rate # 1 as it finds what all other miss.

Antispyware I use three. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict with your system.

A2Squard Malware out of Austria. Download their free version and you will be protected from, rogue dialers, worms, malware, keyloggers, trace spyware and rouge cookies.

AdAware SE Personal out of Sweden. This antispyware company has been around since computers became commerical. In June of this year they will come out with a brand new version. Right now it is beta testing. Download their free home for personal use. http://www.lavasoft.com

All of these program I have listed for you use little or no resources.

download an Mac address changer, change it to something in China, he cant find your mac, encrypt your router with a wep key, Change your router to Non Broadcasting, change your Ip from 198.162 to something Not everyday normal. Change your routers administrators PW to something Other then Admin. Zone alarm works good too. Peer Guardian 2 can block his Ip if you know all that. Your router keeps tabs on whos running through it. Peer Guardian 2 will do the same both incoming and outgoing. Not worth your time trying to find who it is. Theres some many millions of people it Could be .. better yet, download a Metric Az Ton of software to slow down your computer and make it not worth using, You'll care less when your computer takes 10 minutes to load. Wonder if the guy two posts below is getting paid for advertisement? And also, no programs are going to make your computer 100% safe. I hear commodore 64's are safe thou :) No but really, just change a few simple settings, and it gets a tad harder to access your info.

As long as you have the legitimate Spybot S&D from Safer Networking. There are rogue programs trying to pass themselves off as Spybot S&D.

I have Spybot on my computer and there is nothing wrong with it, there are no viruses, so i would just download spybot if you haven't because it's really good!
on lissaexplains (a trusted site in my view) it talks about it, search for it on her website.

Spybot is definately one of the good guys. Earthlink spyware tools is more suspect as it probably displays ads they are getting paid to show you.

You are talking about Spybot Search and Destroy ? It is one of the worst pieces of crap around and can damage your computer beyond repair if you click fix-it buttons for Windows Registry items.

How do you know ? Type in the full name and then 'review' after it and click Search at Google or anywhere. Read the answers from professionals and experts and lab test results - NOT from day one new users that haven't got a clue to computing safety.

Uninstall it now and use any of these known free home versions until you decide on a purchase. You must purchase antivirus and antispyware to activate real time protection. This is not available in free programs with the only exception being the free Microsoft Windows Defender antispyware software program:

When purchasing antispyware software - make sure everything you see there is included features in your choice, or otherwise you are obviously getting ripped off. Trend Micro Antispyware also has these same protections and a little more - as if that could be even possible
