It would depend on how close the relative was. I have never had a dog - but I was very fond of a dog my aunt had years ago, so I feel I know a little of how upsetting it can be to lose a dog. I think losing a close relative would probably be worse for me.

The death of a relative would upset me the most,I don't have a dog,and if I did it still wouldn't matter.

Wow, what a tough question. I would have to agree with it depends on the relative, but with some of my relatives I would even pick the neighbors dog.

If it is a close relative, of course the relative; but if it is a distant one, the dog!.. Dogs are loyal and you end up loving them more that a relative sometimes.

My dog of course or any of my pets for that matter (I have two hamsters but no dogs, but I can imagine what it's like)
Most people I know are not close to their relatives, our pets are the ones closer to us so their deaths will hit us harder.

definitely my dog because then I wouldn't have to deal with the incessant nagging of relatives especially when the topic of becoming a housewife comes up. My dog Coral was the absolute best I just wish I had more time with her.
