Almost all forms of sacred architecture deal with the issue of the relation between earth and sky. Stonehedge is a possible refference, pre-columbian architecture in america is full of examples, ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian architecture also. I am not so sure that the Islamic architecture of Granada is the best example. In India there are observatories built during Islamic times which may be better refference (I remeber one is in Jaipur). You can try to google these things or look at wikipedia but I think a visit to the library will be more productive.

Why does it have to be esoteric or Islamic? There is evidence of the practice of human sacrifice around stone henge. Is that what you want to embrace?
