I think there should be a draft..but not a Military draft..I think that anyone asking for Federal Aid for anything should be drafted and taught a viable skill.
This would be something beneficial other than the current career of bearing young little Democrats and getting a several thousand dollars a year to ensure they survive to vote.

IMNSHO, there should be a draft.
But not one like we had during the Vietnam war where the local draft boards could be influenced by local bigwigs to get their kids deferred.
I believe that we should institute Universal Conscription, i.e. every citizen between the ages of 18 and 45 should be required to give at least three years to public service. If a person is legitimately a conscientious objector, allow them to do their service in something like VISTA, or some other public service group.
Yeah, we are getting some good people in the military, but the majority of enlistees are from the poorer, less educated strata of society. Many of our best and brightest are not serving because they can make a better living in the civilian sector. Then we complain that the quality of our military is suffering.
Additionally, the military is stratifying into a caste system, with a better educated, generally more affluent people in the Officer Caste, and a lower class poor people in the Enlisted Caste. Universal Conscription would weaken that caste system by having the sons of CEO's in the same platoon as the sons of cleaning women.
It is also a fact that the military services are having great difficulty meeting their recruiting quotas, and retaining personnel for additional enlistments. Universal Conscription would slove those problems. If retention rates stay down, at least a new crop of conscripts will fill the ranks.
I firmly believe that we need a Universal Conscription to ensure that the make up of the military reflects the country's make up. At the moment, Southerners, blacks, and Latinos make up an inordinately large percentage of the armed forces. This situation might not bode well for the country in the event of major civil unrest.

No, we're not on the verge of another draft at all. Pelosi, Reid, Hillary and the rest of the cowardly democrats will have us pull out of Iraq and Afghanastan (sp?) with our collective tails between our legs like the cowards they are, and then we will need more police and fire personnel to clean up after the next few dozen terrorist attacks here in the US. We won't need a draft for the military, though. Pelosi, Reid, Hillary and the rest of the democrats hate the military. To them, we are easily replacable hired guns and to them it's a shame we all didn't die so they could save the pittance they give us as a pension for retirement

No. I'm afraid I cant tell you that.
You want to make sure it doesnt happen? Start workin to end this damn war. This is shaping up to be another Vietnam.
The draft wont be re-instituted under Bush. Hes going to leave it for the next President to handle. So make sure you support a candidate who will get us the hell out immediately, not some moron like Clinton, Edwards or McCain.

Yup, I can tell you that we are not. Bush is opposed to it and will be president for the next two years. But, if you're scared about it check up Edwards' view. He believes that there should be mandatory service in the military (so that we can have a balance of rich and poor in the military). If you don't want one you should become vocal in denouncing his candidacy.

It is my opinion, that there would be great resistance to a draft and the military itself does not want this action taken. There is a very great strain on our military at this time and recruiting goals are not being met.

It's very unpopular and quite unlikely to happen in the next 20 years.
The only way it could happen is if they raised the voting age to 21, like the did with the drinking age. If the voting age were higher, then our masters could safely draft people who couldn't retaliate by voting against them.

Since they stopped cc'ing me on the daily pentagon briefs I cannot say for sure. But I doubt it unless we have a National Emergency.

If that's what you want to hear, yes I can, however it might be a good thing if there was a 2 year mandatory service requirement, then the free loaders and complainers would know better what they are talking about, and I don't mean you, libs in general..................
