It will be wrong to say that most of the foreign coaches are not interested in coaching india.Dav whatmore approached indian team even when the world cup was going on.In 2005 various foreigners including tom moody was interested in coaching india.well,it is true that coaching indian team is a great challenge but the coaches also get the money double than any other country will give. After the greg episode, there has been some issue but the interest is still there.

Lot of politics involved in cricket in this part of the world. People are passionate for the game of cricket and don't like to see their team losing that exerts extra pressure on coach and the management. When a team performs poorly the only scape goat is the poor coach and people right away start to demand the removal of coach. Coaches from foreign lands know the fact how strong the player power is and that they will never be at liberty to try their methods of coaching here. Secondly Bob Woolmer's death may have made them think twice when offered the job.

I don't think that foreign coaches are not interested in coaching India but it is true as far as Pakistan is concerned. India can can make an offer that can be very difficult to resist by most coaches available in the current market. I think from what happened with Greg Chappell, they might be asking for a long term contract and reasonable freedom from the interference from the selectors.

India has loss many matches even having Greg Chappel from Australia which is one of the best teams and he also was the captain of the Australian team. Thinking this, most of the coaches refuse to coach India. But Indian team is one of the top 5 from my view. It can be no.1 when politics is removed and players in the team concentrate on the game.

In terms of cricket, Indian fans are very passionate and do not take loosing lightly, this has a tendancy of exerting a lot of pressure on both the coach and the captain. Most foreign coaches are discouraged by this. I hear there is a foreign coach who has expressed interest though.
