Yes, format the harddrive and reinstall the operating system. this will make it unrecoverable to the average person.
If you need it a bit more potent format it and fill the drive up with anything eg music then reformat and that will pretty much make everthing unrecoverable except the music if someone really tried.

Just remove the hard drive, this is where all the info are stored, use a HUGE hammer, smash it into 20 million pieces.
Or use some software to erase the hard drive.

Wouldn't reformatting it work? Like you are starting out all over again and have to download all the programs and such?
