Does anyone know of an affordable apartment complex in San Diego near SDSU?

Question

In August after teaching three years in Alabama, I will be moving to San Diego to pursue a graduate degree full time.I really would like to at least have my apartment and electricity and water on upon arrival.I also need a solution to receiving male during this huge transition. I am very independent I am excited about such a big change.

I made the move out here from NY in August 2006 with my husband and found it VERY DIFFICULT to get an apartment. Most people here will not rent to you until they meet you in person and let you look at a place. My husband and I must have made at least 60+ phone calls to try and find a place before we drove out here with no luck. We had 2 places that fell through after they were promised to us (hard to trust people's word here).

August is also a bad time of year to be searching for an apt. in San Diego. Everyone moves down here in the summer to surf and bum around. We had to spend 4 nights in hotels and campgrounds before we got a place. I would advise to find cheap motel and make calls to set up appointments a few days before you come. Check Craigslist for listings and find a friend or cheap motel for a few days.
