The new monitor uses one of the usb ports and when I plug up everything the screen is black and says 1280 x 1024 x 60 hz. Any advice please?

"1280 x 1024 x 60 hz" is the native resolution, do NOT change it, you could damage the LCD.

Disconnect your old monitor and connect the new LCD to the VGA port. You should get an image. If not, see if the LCD monitor comes with drivers.

In Windows, right-click on the Desktop and then click on the settings tab. Make sure the setting match the "native" settings above.

Shut everything down and then plug in the monitor. Turn on your monitor and power up your computer. On the desktop right click and go to properties>settings. Try enabling a second monitor by double clicking on the big two.

your video card is not on the same resolution as your monitor. Try to boot on safe mode first, then from there configure your resolution to the lowest, 800x600, then restart. If you encounter the same problem boot to safe mode again then follow the monitors resolution 1280x1024.
