The Cyclone Roller Coaster at Coney Island, NY. Coney Island is closing down after about 150 years or more for luxury condo's, it should be interesting. Also, Nathans Hot Dog place, the Side Shows, the Mermaid Parade and the Polar beard (the crazy people who go in the water in the dead of winter). All of that stuff.
The Statue of Liberty, NY. The staue of liberty celebrates the treaty of alliance between America and France from the American Revolution. You can write about who and why they made it, what it represented, the poem on the bottom (by Emma Lazerus, or something like that, I cant spell), and how it is today.
The Alamo, in Texas. You can write about the war, the battle, the semi-famous people who died, their legacy, and connect it to the movie from 2004.

How about "the Old Man of the Mountain" in New Hampshire? It was a striking-looking natural formation that looked like an old Indian face. It recently fell down and crumbled apart, much to the chagrin of all New Hampshirites?

How about Stone Mountain in Georgia. Not many people would think of that for a report. It has a diverse history.
