Yes its a attitude. The way you think will decide whether you are optimistic or not, cause emotions can change the answer for any question or looking towards the situations.

They are ONE. The out ook or perpection of optimism leads to the emotions inclusicve of self confidence....and self esteem, making the Optimism more predomnant and that's what people see.....Confidence.This 9s a contagious thing,..and I say this from experience as we are always looking forreasons to have hope.

Attitude is what you have to face the future. Emotion is the reflection of past events. (IMHO) So I do agree that it is an attitude. One can be sad but still hopeful for the future but one cant be optimistic about the past that has already happened.

optimisim can be triggered by certain events.
so its more of an emotion.
if you win the lottery, you would be really optimistic about your future once you cash in that ticket
