Well, I am not sure that we can avoid them... not speaking from the standpoint of myth and movies etc.. but daily activity incorporates a certain amt of illusion - our brains are always working and sorting the truth is quite a chore... We process alot of stuff... so, to a certain extent, I do think we need illusions just to get us through the day..

Illusion is required for survival of the mind. The man is nothing but the mind. His mind will be in the past or the future and not in the present. So he wants imagination for the survival so that he can dream about the future. Because of this dreaming there is life.A person without dreams/illusions is dead OR he is the most alive person bcos he is always in the present. MAN WITH ILLUSIONS IS NIETHER LIVING NOR DEAD LIKE WE ARE! Getting out of these illusions is the opening of the REAL LIFE!

Because of our need to communicate and establish common terms with others, humans naturally have a need and are designed for creating mental models that we can use to understand and share concepts on an abstract level.

Since all the truth in the universe, of course, exceeds our human grasp and capacity, it is only natural to use artistic representations of it in order to understand universal concepts and relations by "analogy" or "allegory" that cannot always be spelled out in full detail.

Thus, we create religious systems and political models and also use mythology and storytelling to symbolize conflicts and resolutions in relations, and to understand progression or to define human processes, within ourselves or with others and with collective humanity as a whole.

These are not "illusions" in terms of being completely "false" or "made up," as they all carry content and meaning and purpose. The elements, conflicts, themes and stories told in
either real life or artistic depictions reflect universal truths about human nature in relation to the world we live in.

The point is to use these systems constructively to help understand common truths so we can better function and live naturally in spiritual harmony.

So yes, we do have both an artistic desire to create and share ideas this way, as well as a spiritual drive to use these to communicate and understand and enlighten each other as mature, intelligent beings capable of comprehending life on this fully aware, conscious level.

Certainly. Perhaps more important than the examples you list is the most basic one, which allows propagation of the species. We even insult the coyote, with its strong family values, in joking about our need for illusion in this area.

what we see in not an accurate reflection of the world. our mind distorts what is actually there so that it can make sense of it. for example, the blind spot on the retina. when an image falls on the blind spot in both retina, it disappears. does that mean the object has disappeared in reality? no. it's still there just our mind cannot process it because it cannot be seen, though it is there. so our perception of the reality is erroneous and thus an illusion.
