It's going to take quite a bit of time for the muscles and tendons to recover. these are harder to recover from then the fracture. It's probably going to take six months to a year. Talk to your medical doctor about this and find out exactly what the doctor thinks will be your recovery time.

RE:
How long does the pain from a fractured sternum last?
I had a car accident on April 30, 2007 and the air bag fractured my sternum. The pain has lessened considerably, but it still hurts quite a bit. I am tired of the pain already and want to know how much longer I'll have to put up with it.

Sorry to hurt you more with the truth, but you are probably looking at 6 months before you are pain free. The sternum is an area in constant motion because you breathe, and bones such as ribs and sternum take alot longer to heal completely

breaks in bones heal just like cuts it depends on where it is at on how long it will heal it should have stop by now i would think ive broke all my fingers most of my toes.. 8 ribs both arms and my knee when you break something it will never be the same and most people will tell you there wil be some pain forever but the real pain well i think it should have stop in a few weeks to a month... have you been back to your doctor have them take a look

you will need to see a doctor for the real estimate, but i can tell you right now, it may be another year before the pain subsides. remember, no hugging.
