No cannons or anything, but like... Fort walls and such... I'm thinking out of stone.

I'm thinking that this is a question you have to call your local municipal zoning office about. It would fall under the category of remodeling, and they always think that they have to issue permits for things like that. Anyway, the legality would fall under local jurisdiction and if you disagreed with their decision, you'd have to hire a lawyer (best to get one who specializes in real estate law no matter what a law office says).

Yes it's legal but you need approval from the city and your neighbors (if your neighbors find the idea to affect their property get ready for a long time in court). Also you need an architect to draw the schematics to make it legal.

If you have a big amount of land you might have no problem but if your walls are too close to someone's else property it might be a problem.

At the end it will be up to the city to decide if you can or not do that.

My father, who was in WW2 in Europe, Remarked how the houses there had walls made of stone, and artillery fire and tank rounds would knock them down like so many dominoes. His thought was that if similar battles happened here, our homes would not give us much protection at all. Think about it. You could be sitting in the comfort of your living room and be hit by a stray bullet.

you can do anything you'd like to you house within local building codes. if there's a homeowners assoc. then you'll need to check with them. Movie stars "fortify" their houses all the time. They do it with style.
