Doesn't this really depend on who you are and who the party is for.

If you're homeless, living in '57 Ford station wagon I can see one sort of party.

I you are a mulibillionaire or a public figure, if you will be having 700 guests plus the press and National TV will be preempted for the lighting of the candle, I can see a very different sort of party.

And of course there are as many levels between those two people as there are people. My kid would get cake and ice cream and the family but little more than that. That shouldn't cost more than a few dollars. I would guess that even with a present it wouldn't much over $50.

lets face it this party is not for your child its for you and you're just using it as a n excuse but invite your family round for lunch just like a normal Sunday get a cake then perhaps open a savings account as a gesture then put money in this which he will be able to use in the future but at the moment he has no idea its his birthday so don't stress yourself wait until hes 18 and asks for a car for his birthday you ll be able to say you have your saving account which i opened and have been putting money in every year since you were one year old

I'd invite family and close friends and have them bring dishes and make it kinda of a nice Reunion and then have a cake and presents for your child. I wouldn't spend much until the later years at 5 and older.

It depends on expendable income. If you overdo it, you are setting yourself up for doom...your one-year old is not even going to remember it, but everyone else will.
Use common sense, and keep it simple. I've been to parties that there were so many presents that the poor kid was crying by the time he got them all open. He wanted to play and have fun with the other kids, and he had to keep opening the presents....it was not fun for anyone.

just under 100 dollars will do, not to much endless the gift your receive for them is money! and since the child will get toys. All you need to spend is food to serve the guests ^__^
have fun!

Not a lot, unless you want to impress your friends and relatives. Most people overspend, when the child will not remember, nor care about it. Buy a cake, and take a picture of him with it. Then eat the cake, and enjoy it.

Probably just enough to get them a gift they'll like. They aren't going to remember a party, or even the gift they get probably.

50k like that article says is insane & stupid, especially for a first birthday.
