Is this the most idiotic thing you've ever heard? Even if it IS all relative, I would still rather feed a small country in my child's honor! What do you think?

No way! To me that is:
1) Trying to buy your child's love
2) Trying to show off to your friends
3) The perfect way to raise a spoiled brat who won't contribute to society but just expect others to do everything for them (gosh I could name a few of those people now lol)

I heard of an upper middle class lawyer who probably spent that much on his daughter Bas Mitvah. He hired a SECURITY guard to guard the room with the gifts. He gave out expensive thank you gifts to ALL the kids who came

This person would buy a block of tickets at a Broadway play for his realtives and they'd get their own row.

Lives in the rich part of New Jersey.

If you have so much money you can spend $50k in a birthday party , you could spend intead $5K in the party and give the remaining $45k to charity. There are so many hungry homeless people in the world the money is better spent that way.

No Cindy that is ridiculous and it is the reason that the ultra rich like Paris Hilton and others do the things that they do. I have recently read so many things about poor Paris and her jail sentence for her DUI's and driving without a license. Well kudos to the judge that had the good sense to disregard "who she is" and slap her in the clink for a few days.

absolutely not that is stupid if you had 50000 that you could potentially spend on something and you want you kid to really appreciate it take the best family vacation ever and then put the rest in some mutual funds and let them have some money to start their own life and buy a house or go to college or something that will matter not a dumb birthday party

if i had the money i would use it for something else for my child. college, a nice down payment on a house, starting a charity in her name, there are soo many things that this money could go to. Although if i was filthy rich and able to do all these things and more, and still have plenty of money, maybe

Maybe if I was a billionaire and it was my daughters sweet 16 or her 18th birthday, but that is never going to happen, so NO! Birthdays should be about families, and spending time with families not throwing a party.

It definitely is a lot of money, but at the same time, if people have the money, then why not spend it on their loved ones? Unfortunately prices for parties and the greed of people have risen drastically lately, that $50,000 is needed just to make people happy. It's pretty pathetic

Of course, No. It's crazy to do that. You should be very rich or your child should want lots of things from you. If I had lots of money, I wouldn't do it. I can say that:
WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!
