Oh Rainbow I love it! I enjoy the freedom to do whatever I please throughout the day and every day. I spend more time with my out of area sibblings, my kids and grandkids.
My granddaughter is a cheerleader for a local football team. It is nice to go to the games and feel rested and not worn out after a days work.
I hated my 80 mile one way commute to work every day. But now I travel, and cruise, and love it.... something I have never done before, because there just wasn't time.
I spent 10 hours a day on the computer when I worked, now I spend time on the computer answering questions, working on our family history and playing Pogo games.
Whatever your interest is, you will have more time to enjoy it.

The FREEDOM that comes with doing whatever you want, when you want, and where you want. You have to have the financial security to be able to be free from stress but there are other issues that come with age that are not all good but it's still better than commuting to work, working a 10 hour day, driving home, dealing with overload (too much work for 1 person to handle) & being tired all the time. It's great and I, too, have way too much to accomplish each day to ever be bored. It was better before my husband went and died on me but can't cry over that anymore --no more tears left. I was loved very much by a wonderful man who made me feel like the most beautiful, smartest , sexy & witty woman in the world. It was perfect with him...without him it's not as perfect but it's still a great life & I appreciate it..

The single best thing I like about retirement is being able to stay in bed as long as I want to in the mornings. Then, getting up to a leisurely breakfast, reading the paper and doing a little as possible during the day. I remember those long, hard commutes to Manhattan that began around 6AM and now I count my blessings. You don't have to do volunteer work or any of that other nonsense that retirees think they must do.

The best part is that you have a lot of free time for yourself, you can plan the day the way you like, cultivate all the hobbies you had no time for earlier. The key to a serene and contended retired life is that you keep yourself busy with some work, activities that will keep you busy both physically AND mentally. Of course financial security is a pre-requisite. That you have to work out befor you retire.

As a few others have stated-not there yet and really don't want to be. Need the cash flow so to speak and love the interaction with folks at work.
I am only 62 and the thoughts of retiring give me the shutters. Too active in a LOT of things.

I like having the whole day to do nothing at all, it's lovely! No stress, no traffic, don't have to deal with all the interpersonal insincere office or work college nonsense, yep it's great. Granted I am only forty six and probably could contribute something but to heck with it. I've even got my fiance getting ready to retire as well and she's only thirty eight! Every year away from all that rat racing is a good year and in just nineteen more years my government pension kicks in!!!! Ah ya can take my life but You'll take away our freedom!!!!!!!

I have been busier since I "retired" than I ever was before then!
I spent ten years taking care of my elderly parents daily. Each one of them was able to stay at home, and die peacefully as they wanted.
Since then, I have invited my two daughters to move into my home with their children, so that they could make their somewhat small earnings stretch farthest, and to give me help in paying the monthly bills. So because my daughters work a full week, it is left up to Nana to take care of all three of the grandsons. Since they are 12, 10 and 8 years old, NONE of them are exactly biddable any more. Let us just say that taking care of them takes the patience of Job, and needs to be considered a full time job as well.
Plus I still have my gardening, which during the summer includes my vegetable plot. And all the upkeep this old house needs--painting and cleaning and grass cutting, and on and on and on!
Retirement, you say?! Not in THIS house!

I retired extremely early and have found..as I have heard so many pensioners say...that I am far busier now than I have ever been whilst at work. I have done charity work including going to Romania four times with Humanitarian aid....walked over hot coals...yes Firewalking twice and raised a lot of money through sponsorship.....did the five peaks challenge in 48.5 hours....work in a charity shop 1.5 days a week and do the valuing for them.....have a cabinet in an Antique Centre which I go to car boots and Antique Fairs to get stuff to sell from it. I also write and sing Folk songs at local Folk Clubs...etc etc. BUT all these things are things I have chosen to do....me...myself...I have chosen...that's what I like about retirement.
Best wishes, Mike.

I'm not retired, but I've taken some time off recently that felt like retirement.
The best part is waking up in the morning and knowing that you are not going to work.
Of course, that can be the worst part if you like working and your retirement income is much lower than your working income. That's how I felt towards the end of my time off.

Having the time to smell the roses.
I am not at that age yet either but ill health meant I had to give up work early.
In the begining I worried about keeping my brain active but I read a lot and luckily I have a few grandchildren to keep me on my toes. I have taken up portait painting I love it! I think I am more laid back about things now. And like everyone else more active
