HEY! I tried this once... okay... let's see your in Austrailia right?
Alright what happens is..
As you go higher the air pressure does deflate the balloon.. BUT as it deflats and you decrease altitude... it RE-inflates... not kidding.. it does... SO... if you have an hours oxygen.. in high South Easterly winds...
You'd end up RIGHT OVER MY HOUSE... drop the now empty bottle approx... five miles before you get here... it'll land on my deck... at which time I'll haul out my BB gun... aim.. fire.. nail the balloon (make it a RED one so I can hit it and not you).. and you'll slowly drift down and land in my yard. (Avoid the raspberries... they have prickles)
I'll crack open a cold one.. and we'll salut the success of your experiment.
(When I tried this... I ended up in Vlad Swatsky's yard in Eastern Europe.. he didn't have beer.. but his vodka was good. AND I got a lift home with the Russian sychronized swim team... I have to say.. THAT was a long and annoying ride... Do you know how many Russian Sychronized Swimmers it takes to change a flat tire? Nine.. yup.. NINE of them... and IN AS MANY HOURS.... I have to say... Vlad's vodka had long worn off by the time I hit the Canadian border!)

I think the air pressure in the higher atmosphere would cause your balloon to deflate at which time you would fall rapidly towards the cold, hard, ground and go splat!!!!!!!! I can't guess on how long your oxgen would last cuz I don't know how fast you would rise....

No I don't think that that would happen. I don't think a helium balloon could stand that much pressure and would explode.
