Yes, my Great Grandmother and my Aunt used to speak of them. Nanny lost a brother and my Aunt lost the young man she loved. One was seventeen years old and the other ninteen. I think there are others tha t i didn't know of.
I don't suppose there are many of that generation that didn't loose someone that they fond of.

Do you mean the Somme?

My husband's family lost three brothers in the 1914-1918 war.

As far as I know, no family members / ancestors were killed in WW1.

Some Somme facts:
1 July 1916, on which the British suffered 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 dead — at that time the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army.

There are currently only 4 French veterans of WW1 alive, all British veterans are now dead.

May God grant them Peace for the sacrifices they and there comrades made for us.

i have two great uncles that died in world war 1 my nans brothers clarles and william lees but i dont know where they were killed it was all such a pointless waste of young lives a lost generation in a sea of tears we should do all in our power stop the conflicts around the world making it a better world for our children to live in

yes..a distant relative of mine..no wonder since much of my family emigrated to the Somme area anyway..and well..many others too in different times, different countries..The most far back I think was serving under Napoléon..but later than that..would not know..might as well go back to Vercingétorix.

No, but I've got one died in Iraq in 1917.
No immediate plans to visit the grave.

yep... the somme. and if you go to google and type in, the somme there is tons of info, i still cant believe how many people were killed there... really sad.
