Thanks Mike - I never thought of that. I was not sure whether it was a hoax, but thought I would rather be safe than sorry.

It is just an attempt to propogate user create spam and scaremongering. However, that doesn't mean that someone couldn't send out a virus with that title in the subject line. Some references below:

This hoax has been doing the rounds. Just forget it and desist with the paranoia. If you practice safe net usage anyways, you'll most likely not get a virus (given that you are running a fully updated version of your OS, a fully updated anti-virus and anti-spyware software and a fully updated firewall)

I have no idea but it may be a virus that circulates through everyones emails in your address book or hide itself as a a warning but actually is the virus and sending it may send the virus go to microsofts website and see if there is any mention
