Thanks to friction the whole world is still together.

Some specific examples:
1. Car tires and pavement
2. Our feet and ground we walk upon
3. Breaks cars, trucks, train, elevator...
4. Belts used over pulleys to transfer energy between axis.

The guys who answered have difficulties distinguishing between applications and "manifestations" of friction or, maybe your question is wrongly put. The applications are concerned with transforming mechanical energy into thermal energy through friction and . Another application is machining with all kinds of abrasive materials even though this is not strictly friction but has a friction component, too.
