Bypass the entire fuel system by getting a can of diesel and piping it straight into the pump. You only a pint or so and a CLEAN bit of pipe.
If it fires up, that means the pump is working and something is stopping fuel reaching the pump so it will be a case of tracing back along the fuel line and replacing suspect sections. It could have a hole in it allowing air in. Have you primed the fuel filters? They could be full of air. If they are the Lucas type with the glass bowl bottom the seals may have gone. If it fires up roughly, you could have some blocked injectors.
If it refuses to start even when you are putting fuel directly into the pump, you could need a new or exchange pump.

crack open the lines at the injectors and crank engine until fuel comes out then tighten the lines. i had an one occasion with a CAV pump that got air locked after filter replacement and would not pump fuel, i moved on to other jobs and when i got back to it 3 days later it lit right off and runs just fine so patience is the key[along with a hot battery and a good starter motor]

check that pump is working check filter is not blocked if the pump is electric then put a meter to it and start it up and see what voltage comes out and make sure the fuel tank is clean no dirt in it.check the fuel lines from the tank to the injector.
if theres air in the system you need to bleed it .you do this by finding bleed valve and open it and crank it up or if you have a hand pump to prime your system use that to take air out of the system. my opinion is that it be air in your system if you had service on changed somthing on it that what happens.

try loosening a fuel line going into an injector at the block. then use your manual primer pump and bleed the air out. also make damn sure all your fuel filters and fuel element filters are full of fuel and not sucking any air

Usually, a modern fuel injection engine computer won't continue injecting fuel into the cylinders if there's no ignition spark detected by the computer. So you should first test to see if you have ignition spark using the spark tester below. Simply disconnect one of the spark plug wires and reconnect it to the spark tester clipped to the metal engine. Then see if you have spark or not.
