CDs in HARDDRIVE!!!!??? No way you can do that. If you mean optical unit (CD DVD) then it's OK. First, did the unit ever work? If not you may have to install it. Then, when you go to 'my computer' do you see the unit? If not you have a problem with the driver and you might have to reinstall. Does this thing happen with CDs burned by your friends or with commercial ones, too? If it's the first then your friends may have written either at speeds that are not recognized by your computer or on media that cannot be read on your computer or sometimes there is an incompatibility between different makes of CD writers. How old is your unit? If more than 3 yrs. it could be that it simply died on you. If you didn't succeed to do something with my advice you'll have to go to a service center because what needs to be done require special tools and software you don't seem to have. Good luck!

Well, first of all, you don't put CDs in a hard drive, you put them in a CD drive. Now, is your CD drive recognized? It should always appear in My Computer even if it is empty. To determine if the drive is recognized, when the slide is closed, right click on the icon for that cd, and left click on 'eject'. If the drive does not open and expose the slide, your drive is not recognized and basically until the drive is recognized your computer will never 'see" anything in that drive until it is recognized.

Now, there are several things that might explain why it is not recognized if it's an external CD drive the USB cable might not be connected properly, the power cable might not be connected, (rarely) it might require a device driver be installed in order for the computer to recognize it, or it might be that the drive power switch is "off". If it is an internal CD drive the IDE cable might be loose or not connected (at either or both ends) or the power connector might be loose or not connected.

Now, if what you are expecting is that the setup program for the disc is not coming up, it could be there is no autorun program set up for that disc, or it could be your computer has been set to disable autorun.

Maybe your CD drive died.

OR

If your PC used to be faster, or is acting strangely, it's probably infected with malware. Use the link below to learn more about "malware".

Then, you need to install: ONE Anti-virus (AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm free), and Anti-spyware tools like: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner (free, use all 5 regularly).

Google for them, install them and learn how to use them.

TIP: Last resort, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and do a Windows "Clean Install", more info at (www.theeldergeek.com). The apps above can only clean up so much.

Sounds like your CD is not connecting with your computer. Make sure the cables are connected properly and try it again. If this doesn't work buy another one and install it. They are relatively inexpensive today.

Good Luck.

If you mean that the cd-rom icon is not on the "my computer", then your ks.sys is missing its a file in system32 folder, that's is the file that is use to display the cd-rom icon.

If you mean that the name of the cds is not displaying or not running in my computer then restart your computer. Sometimes it's the error of windows.

Or

You can reinstall the driver of your cd-rom drive.

I think your CDROM has some problem, try cleaning it using Lens Cleaner CD's available in the local market, if it works then it is fine but if it doesn't then you will need to replace it.

Open your BIOS and make sure it is enabled in there. Also open device manager, and see if it is listed, if so doubleclick on to open properties, and set the drive letter to D: or even Z:
