Had my forth miscarriage and have been told I need to have tests to find out the problem. My tests are to have an ultrasound scan of my ovaries and a hysterosalpingogram to check the configuration of my uterus and competence of my cervix. Just want to know if anyone has has these tests and what they are. Only serious anwsers please as I am really concerned what will happen.

My husband thinks I have to be on period when having the tests, is this true? I hope not?

I suppose the protocol varies, but I have to respond to Gaby - we don't give you anesthesia, but you can take something over the counter for the cramping beforehand. It's basically like getting a pap smear, and you don't get anesthesia for that. It sounds like she had her HSG in an old facility or something...we don't put a film under your back. You are also not to have anything in your vagina for 24 hours after (Gaby mentioned a tampon). Basically, don't listen to anything she said!
In answer to your other question, you are not having your period when you have the hystero - you should be in the first half of your cycle (done flowing but before day 12 I think).

An ultrasound is where you lay on a bed in a darkened room. They'll place jelly on your abdomen and take this sort of wide wand and rub it over your belly. From there they get live images of your uterus and will measure out and local all of the anatomical bodies (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix) and will place notes on sizes and any abnormalities that they suspect.
The hysterosalpingogram, they will inject dye into your cervix and then take a series of x-rays to check the size, shape and look for any abnormalities of your uterus, fallopian tubes and cervix. After they inject the dye they'll make you lay on your back with your legs up and bent in a "frog" (that's the best description I can come up with) position. Take photos and then have you roll side to side so that the contrast (the dye) can get into both tubes. The dye may cause some cramping, but it's nothing horrible.
I'm sorry to hear that you've had so many repeat miscarriages. I hope that they find some answers for you.

ok the ultrasound they will first use a probe on your stomach and look at your uterus and ovaries that way. you will probably need to have a full bladder for that. then they will have you empty your bladder and depending on the facilities protocol they will do a transvaginal ultrasound. they will put an ultrasound probe in your vaginal canal and look at your uterus and ovaries that way. (not fun I know but does get very good pictures) ok the hystero.. this will start off like you are having a check up stir-ups and all. they will insert a cathether into your uterus and inject dye into it and watch it on live xray to see if your fallopian tubes are clear and open. When they inject the dye you may have mild cramping like a period or it may be a little worse. each person is different. i hope that helps you out some i know every hospital is different on how they do things but that hopefully will give you an idea

the ultrasound scan is like you walk your...Mobil-phone on your abdomen (no pain, nothing to mention). but the HSG is a little bit more...special. first of all ask for anesthesia (it might be veeeery painful without that!).then they put you on a cold table (iron or something), lay back with your knees up, the doctor introduces a substance with a needle shot(that substance show the permeability of the tubes-fallopian and also is a kind of radioactive, not that dangerous, which makes possible the x ray. wait a few minutes (the substance must reach in the uterus) then put a film under your back and... takes picture.
the result is immediately give to you. you will have a little blood on your tampon for few hours and strange sensation (like menstruation), but next day you'll be just fine.take care to be in the 14th day since menstruation for best results.
good luck! I've past trough all this last year and nobody could tell at that point anything. remember: ask for anesthesia before HSG

miscarriages happen if your organs are positioned in the right place or they may have some abnormalities
so those two tests are used to check your body structure to find out the reason that caused so many miscarriages, it could be due to structure problem or it could be due to the fetus' own genetic problems
and if the egg was not deposited in the right space, it may also cause miscarriage

ovaries produces ova eggs so ova is produced properly otherwise there will not be any pregnancy. miscarriage is due fault in the uterus which is not able to hold the fetus to the full term. it is suggested please do not get pregnant until and unless
