No one can give you a definite answer to this question. It depends on your own ability to learn. However, once you learn the basics, it will considerably shorten the time it takes to understand the language if you go to a "total immersion" summer school, or visit the country and take courses there. Most countries have courses for foreigners learning their language. There is a great deal of info on the Internet, but you're not ready for it yet.

Best way to learn Japanese is to be completely immersed in it; live in Japan. It's not a language you pick up well by taking classes or through audio/computer programs. The grammar is unlike any Euro-American language so it's hard to get used to.

Well, usually one can get the meaning, what the person is saying, from the context, without understanding all of the words. I'd say it depends too much on your abilities, and how much you are planning on studying daily.
Gambatte, or something. :)

dipende da te, da quanto ti immedesimi non solo nella grammatica, ma anche enlla cultura dell'altra persona. il più delle volte è proprio quest'ultima a proporre sottili differenze di interpretazioni alle frasi. ciao
