to find out how much it will run look at the base, or back of the fan, here you should find a voltage rating (if in uk its 230-240 volts) and a current rating, which would be in amperes, mulitply them together, and you will get its power requirements, for example a 1A fan would require 230 * 1 = 230 watts, and every 1000 watts per hour costs between 8-12 pence depending on your electricity supplier, this should give you an exact cost per hour of your desk fan.
Or you may have a straight power rating, which would tell you how many watts per hour the fan consumes.

There should be a label on the back of the fan which tells the wattage.
Check the site out below. It lists a portable fan at 110 watts. I would think a small fan like that shouldn't draw over 35 to 50.
They do a device that's about 20 to 40 pounds that you plug into the wall and then whatever you want to measure and it will show you the amps and watts being consumed.

Look on the base or back at the rating plate, if it's 50 watts it will cost about 12p for 20 hours. Other wattages pro-rata.- 100 watts 10hours/75 watts = 15 hours etc.

I doubt if you will notice any difference at all. ac,electric range and electric water heater are the top users of electricity. After those, it would be electric lights, tv, and computer.
