01 Delhi
Politics aside, the city is well planned, infrastructure is good and is going to get better, the food is amazing, entertainment options are aplenty, shopping is absolutely amazing. No other city can match in terms of history and monuments. The only downside is the weather....
02 Chandigarh
Chandigarh is excellently planned, is very clean, the people are charming and the food is good. Its close to hill stations and offers many weekend getaways. But weather sucks, and entertainment has a long way to go. From the architectural point of view, the city is amazing.
03 Kolkata
People say that Kolkata's time is long gone, but Kolkata is infactrising from the ashes. The left is being tuned down with time and development is going haywire. Apart from excellent food (both on the street and off it), there's a lot of history and culture around. The city has a real spirit, which is hard to find anywhere else. The Durga Puja really lightens up the place.
04 Puducherry
Formerly Pondicherry, this place is perhaps the most charming place in all of India with its Gallic streets with colonial french architecture. The place is unusually clean and the people very courteous. French food is simply amazing, and you can't get better breads anywhere else. This is the closest you can get to France outside France.
05 Kochi
Kochi is a cultural hub, with Malayali, Dutch, Arab, Jewish, Christian influences. It has a scenic location along the Vembanad Lake and an excellent harbour. The people are very polite and food is good. The weather is pleasant and the sunsets are incredible.
In case you're wondering, Mumbai is rock bottom, while Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad are somewher in between.
