When we sweat we release pheromones, which are released by animals in order to attract a mate of the opposite sex. Men and women release unique pheromones in order to attract one another. When early primates developed our more advanced prefrontal cortex, we sacrifriced our sense of smell for the room to develop our ability to think. The human olfactory sense (the sense of smell) is therefore far too weak to perceive these pheromones.

The point here is that there are differences that can be detected. The human nose and associated consciousness cannot detect it, but an electron microscope or a spectrometer sure could! It unfortunately would require some scientific equipment.

But this is the philosophy section, so...

Who’s to say that pheromones really exist, i mean physically. Who's to say their not just some theoretical construct? I mean, if it can only be measured by highly technical, man-made equipment, the results from which a highly trained, meticulous individual can scrutinize and analyze and decide one way or another whether there is really a difference between the sexes. And what if when it came down to it, the researcher working on the project realized that if he claimed to find some significance in his findings, some difference in the data, he would not only get his PhD for his work in the field, but probably get more funding too. And thus, the pheromone was born...

Yeah!! I was reading some research that said men's pheromones are mainly in their sweat, women's in their urine (yuck!).

It appears that homosexual men are attracted to male pheromones and show the same brain activity as hetero women. Apparently the results were less clear for lesbiasns.

So, yes, I suppose so. It would be interesting to see whether post-op transsexuals have a change in their pheromones . . .
