I was wondering if they was any extra maintanence with a Diesal engine and have heard they last alot longer than a regular engine. Need help because I don't know anything about them. I am looking to buy a VW Golf that has 195,000 miles on it and it's an 2001. Should I buy it or be cautious and will it last?

Diesels do last a while. BUT, these have turbos on them, and that is a lot of miles on a turbo unit.

Diesel engines do last longer as they're made stronger than a petrol engine due to the compression and becasue the explosions in the cylinders are not as fierce as biesel fuel burns slower.
195,000 miles is too much for a 2001 model car. The motor should be ok, but the rest of the car would be very worn.

OK, oil change costs more than for gasoline model, so do diesel oil these days. Mileage the same or less than gasoline engine. Diesel be noisy and smelly and SLOW! Deisel belongs in a 18 wheel truck with 12 or more gears. Only drivers that know and love diesels make them last longer. Don't buy this myth! Everyone I know that bought any brand of diesel car is sorry they did. Hope this helps........

Be cautious its a lot of miles but being a diesel it can last much longer Oil changes are important and fan belts and timing belts are important otherwise diesel is a far better way to go .~~

modern diesels are pretty good

anytime you buy a used car you should be cautious but the risk is usually reflected by the price.

something is accessible you need to look into the engine length first to work out if it relatively is going to in advantageous condition then the motor mounts to no longer point out the differential then the rear end must be appeared at their is a lot to do to no longer point out the exhaust configuration your best guess is dont waste a while or money in this yet purchase the vehicle you pick
