My parents decided to give me an awful name and I been cursed with it ever since I was born. I have hated growing up with it and I'm ready for a change. It is unpronoucable and embarrassing, so I am planning on changing it when I transfer colleges and move out of state next year . Here are a few names I have in mind, tell me which one you like the best. Or if you have any nice, simple and pretty names in mind, I am totally up for suggestions too. Thanks!!

Alana (rhymes w/ my last name Shimada...tell me if it works)
Leila or Layla
Nola
Elena
Larisa
Claudia
Lara
Amelia

Order from best to worst:

Nola - One of my favorite names. I know many others don't like this name. I also like as a nickname for Finola.
Claudia - Love this one also
Leila or Layla - I only like Leila - pronounced LEE-lah not LAY-lah. Layla is the new Kayla, way too trendy.
Amelia -Love it, but it is gaining popularity.
Elena - I prefer Alina. If Alina, would be in top 3.
Alana - my niece's name. Nice, but like the others better.
Lara
Larisa

I love all the names on your list except Lara/Larisa.

Leila, Nola and Claudia are all great names.

So, what is your name?

I LOVE the name Alana Shimada! It's beautiful! People will remember you. It's a lilting, gorgeous beautiful name. It's the best of all the names.

Stay away from "Claudia." It means "lame." The other names are nice but I really LOVE Alana. It's got a certain ring to it!

Leah is my absolutely favorite name of all. It's pretty, simple and doesn't come with any presumptions of personality or looks. I also like Lara. Very pretty. I'm not sure Alana works although it's a great name.
I think that Kate and Sarah are great names. Good Luck.

I like Leila Shimada, Claudia Shimada.

Larisa reminds me of some crazy ghetto of girl from charm school and flavor of love.

Here are my suggestions:
Loralie Shimada
Alexa Shimada
Sophia Shimada
Joceline/Joselyn "Jossie" Shimada
Kylie Shimada
Raquel Shimada
Jeanette Shimada
Emily Shimada
Gizelle/Gisele Shimada
Fiona Shimada

I don't like Alana Shimada because the rhyming sounds a little odd. The other names are pretty, but Lara stands out more because it's my sister's name. I also like Nola (very elegant) and Larisa. Ooh, why don't you consider Anya too - it would go really well with your last name and doesn't rhyme like Alana. And it's my youngest daughter's name, so I'm a bit biased toward it. ;)

I like Larisa or Claudia - when I said the other ones out loud with your last name, it was difficult to hear where the first name ends and the last name starts!

First thing I would suggest is that you write them all down, with your middle and last name that way you can see which goes best. Also repeat the ones you think lok best, as in say a sentence introducing yourself, see if you like the way it sounds when you say it.

As far as which ones I think are the best::
Leila
Elena
Amelia

They all sound funny to me because youre last name ends with an 'a' and you have chosen all names that end in 'a' also.

Good luck!

I love the name Alana but it sounds really silly with your last name. People would end up saying Alana Shinana...

I like Elena... oh wait - you'd have the same problem with that name. In that case I don't really love any of them... sorry.
