I'm almost 70, and I'd much rather be called old than "elderly" -- that seems (to me, anyhow) to be such a politically-correct, prissy word. And the sooner one announces that one is old, the sooner come the indulgences and licenses from the young whippersnappers.

I have used a computer since before Windows (back in the days of DOS and PASCAL and BASIC), but now that I'm retired, I use it mostly for communication. But that includes not just family and friends, but senators, congressmen, the president, the governor, television networks, etc. And of course Yahoo Answers, huh?

I've done desktop publishing, and I still freelance an occasional proofreading / editing job. That's all electronic. The writer / designer sends me a pdf file, I mark it up in pdf and return it to him. (And the retired editor / proofreader in me wants to tell you that it's spelled with an "o" -- offend.)

I also have done considerable genealogy research. Made contact with and became close friends with two 3rd cousins via the internet and sharing information. And I formatted and published a 200+ page family history book using my computer and Microsoft Word.

I do all my shopping with the computer. I don't have a car, so I'm lucky enough that I can order groceries to be delivered.

Sorry to go on and on, but you DID ask, right? You needn't worry about ever having to cut it off, just because you get old.

I am 72 years old,I do not consider my self old,I use my computer for all sorts of things,I am the nosy type and I can find anything that intrests me on the computer.
I don't feel self concious about my age when someone asks,I am thankful that I have made it this long with no more problems than I have,It makes me proud when other people say that I don't appear to be as old as I am.

I'm 57 but don't consider myself to be old...age is just a state of mind anyway.

At 52 yrs of age, I passed exams and became an adult educator in ICT having only started using a computer a few years previously...to get that qualification I had to work through to level lll in Integrated Business Technology and also do the coursework for the tutoring qualification...and I did all that at the same time!

I also know someone who is 85 who regularly uses a computer....don't forget that this technology was not around when we were your age....and that it was people of our generation who invented computers...along with a lot of the stuff that youngsters today take for granted!

I wasn't aware that older people were self conscious about their age....though I have to confess that whilst my mind may be willing to do most stuff...my body will quite willingly say "I don't think so !"

Iam 62, I use my PC for just about everything, including cartography. I sometimes feel like I'm80 but that passes when the pain does. My younger friends (18-49) don't consider me old at all due to my actions and looks. I am not self concious about my age at all-just my false teeth. Don't care to be seen without them.
No offense taken, in fact, ask "just" about any question you wish of older folks-that's one of the things that helps bridge a wide gap.

You mean what is that considered in *human* years? According to the size of the dog. Smaller dogs usually have longer life spans so giving them a *human* age would be different. A 3 year old Maltese would be considered a young teen. A 3 year old Labrador is a young adult.

Who do you think invented the computer and even back to the radio, telephones, tv's.

I think some of us oldies use the computer for more than instant messaging, which to me is such a waste of a good machine that has so much more to offer.

Now, I don't mean to offend you either, but what do you use the computer for besides instant messaging.

use the computer to correspond with family and friends, look information of all types up on the computer to keep gaining in wisdom and knowledge, to help people with schoolwork, to determine prices for purchasing gifts at a reasonable cost, etc.
