My neighbor cut my lawn without asking. He cut it shorter than i like it so it would match his lawn. I like my grass longer, i have a lawn service that takes care of the grass and i have no weeds or dandelions...just nice green grass. I feel violated and i don't want it to happen again. Most discussions i have come across talk about the neighbor that totally lets their lawn go and is a huge eyesore....i am not that person. I just like my grass longer - it turns yellow and burns if it gets cut too short. What do i do? Isn't this considered trespassing? I think pushing his standards on me is wrong and seems like legally i should have something to protect me.

tell him you appreciate the kindness but if the lawn were to die because of his kindness you would feel bad about having to sue or hurt him. if he wants matching lawns he should change his and not yours
it is trespassing and also destroying your property.

There would be no point in taking drastic action as you still have to live next door to them. Just say that you are gratefull that he thought of you when he cut your lawn and that you would prefere in future just to use the service you allready use as you like the job that they do, and dont worry about the grass it will be the right length again before you know it. Just sit back and take a look at the greatness of your crisis and you will realise its not really the end of the world, im sure you have greater worries than your lawn(most people do)! and remember its better to have a neighbor that cuts there grass than one that doesn't give a damn what his garden looks like. Just enjoy the rest of the summer and chill out dont let silly things get you down. Keep smiling!!!!

While I personally would be thrilled if my neighbour cut my lawn, I can see why you are annoyed and quite rightly so.

You already know that you have to begin resolving this by talking to your neighbour and explaining that you find it unacceptable. And you must not lose your temper. You have to live by this guy and it's simply not worth getting into a situation where there is bad feeling between you, or maybe all-out war. These things can escalate so fast. Is your neighbour perhaps a retired person with not a lot to do?

While this is very upsetting, your lawn will grow again very quickly (as we all know lawns do!). Meanwhile try to resolve this peacefully and without anger. But be very clear that you will not be so calm about it if it happens again. Good luck!

Hi I agree with most people on here. Just politely talk to him about it and explain you pay for your grass to be cut and that it is cut that way for the purpose of staying greener and looking nicer. I'm sure he is a reasonable man and just thought he was doing you a nice favour as a gesture of being neighbourly.
If the matter persists, put a fence up it's probably cheaper than going to lawyers.
Remember although it is your home,it is only grass and you at least have more than others do.

Tell him not to do it. Then if he does it again you can press charges. You'd never get away with any type of charge though until you tell him, since in this case it would appear to be a benefit to you. Also make sure that your longer grass is in compliance with local ordiance, if it isn't this can give rise in some places to having someone else cutting it. Since you use a lawn services I would assume they know the law, but since we all know that it doesn't take a brain scientist to start a lawn service they might not.

When I first read the beginning of this I thought "Why are you pissed? I'd be glad if my neighbor mowed my lawn".

But then I changed my mind after thinking about the short grass turning yellow. I'd probably be pissed also.

If you don't want to confront him face-to-face, just leave a short note in his mailbox and say:

"Hey George, thanks for cutting my grass; however, I really like my grass to be a tad longer since it sometimes turns yellow when it's too short. Thanks again!"

That gives you an "out" and still get along. If he insists on telling you that he knows more, then get aggressive. Otherwise, be nice and give him a chance to keep his mitts off of your property.

One of my neighbors on the block started cutting my next door neighbors grass but he cuts about 1 to 2 feet into my lawn every week into my lawn, it's Realllllllly annoying me! I cut my OWN and I like my grass 3 inches (that carpet look). He's such a nice guy and I don't know how to just say, hey thanks but no thanks. I mean really. I am anal about my curb appeal for my house and I just want him to Quit without being sour about it.

It is not vandalism unless he does something to kill your grass completely. You don't want to do anything in any way, shape or form to his yard (or to him) or he could file on you ~ and from the sounds of it, he's the type to do it.

The adult thing to do is to talk with him in a polite, respectful manner and ask him not to trespass on your property again and let him know you don't appreciate him telling you or showing you how he thinks things should be done on your property.

Let him know you aren't breaking any city codes so it isn't his concern how you or any other neighbors do their yard as long as the grass isn't too high.

You could press charges, but the better option would be to talk to him and sort it out face to face, your grass will soon be ready to mow again and you can do it the way you prefer, if however after talking to your neighbour he does it again, then would be the time to think about legal action. To be perfectly frank here, I know it isn't the way you like it, I would be inclined to ignore it and let him get on with it, it's one less job for you to do.

technically your neighbour is trespassing.... but ask yourself this, apart from this lawn business is your neighbour a good person? do you really want a war on your hands over a lawn? is it worth it at the end of the day? He is hardly the neighbour from hell blasting out music at night etc.
perhaps he or she thinks they are doing you a favour (hey I'd love some one to do my lawn)
