Hi all,
I recently subscribed to RoadRunner (Time Warner's High-Speed Internet Service) and I'm interested in purchasing a router that will wirelessly distribute the connection around our apartment to enable allow access from anywhere within the confines of it. I want to be able to receive the best quality signal in each room and ultimately have security enabled on it. I also want to keep it well below $100, and any help would be appreciated.

Well I like BUFFALO.. not many people pay too much attention to them but they simply work! Unlike some linksys and dlink (popular names but much less capable) the buffalo technology units just see to keep on working.

The WHR-HP-G54 is one of the high power high speed ones (125mb) when used with buffalo wireless cards.. and the coverage is great. Runs around 60.00 - 75.00 Add an external antenna you can cover several hundred feet with not much effort (providing you arent inside steel / concrete walls).

They also make one with a BUILT in VPN end point (most only pass VPN this one has the server in it)

Just do a Yahoo search for "high power wireless router" I will bet Buffalo is on the top of the list..--ok it is I checked.

d-link makes a great router for about 70 bucks. Although routers are between 54-300 mbps they only give about 2-3 mbps of your internet connection speed. There is a belkin router about about 39 bucks but its trash!! It will take your 6 mbps cable connection down to about 756 kbps. So stick with the d-link or lynksis

Don't spend too much money. Even the cheapest wireless routers transfer at speeds far above any computers ability. The main difference is area of coverage, and in an apartment you probably will never be far from the base.
