That is standard form. If you want scientific notation then:

If you mean 896.047 - Eight hundred ninety six and forty seven thousandths, then 8.96047*10^2

If you mean 896,047 - Eight hundred and ninety six thousand forty seven, then 8.96047*10^5

For scientific notation of numbers greater than 10 all you have to do is move the decimal point to the left until only one digit is to the left of the decimal and then multiply by 10 raised to a power of equal to the number of places you had to move the decimal point. If the number is less than 1 then you move the decimal point to the right and multiply by 10 raised to a number which is the negative of the number of places you had to move the decimal point.
