True love is when your life revolves around the person you loved, and nothing else matters. You only wish for the best for him/her, to the point that you are willing to sacrifice certain aspects of your life for him/her.

It can hurt sometimes, when you realise your love is not reciprocated, and it requires effort to reflect and take in the meaning of true love at times before you will feel better about giving instead of taking.

It can hurt terribly when the person in love is in pain or in misery and you just cannot do anythign to take that pain/misery away.

Love is a very complex emotion. There is no true defination. It's a deep affection to another person. Along with love, one learns to trust, forgive, give without expecting anything in return, and willing to sacrifice anything for that special person. When there is true love within a relationship, there exists no barriers that can win against it. BUT a relationship, like anything else, must be worked hard at. It isnt going to be all happy and dandy 24/7. There will be tough times. But with love, anything is possible.
It tears up the heart at times because you sometimes fall really hard for a person, but destiny or just things dont work out. You feel horrible in the end of a broken relationship because you truely loved. But try to look at this way, if you didnt go through some unsmooth relationships, you wouldnt be able to learn to appreciate the good ones and know that the next one is one to hold on to and work at it twice as hard.

Evolution has invested a great deal in the mother/child relationship, particularly in social mammals and higher primates. During pregnancy, your brain was flooded with hormones which founded the bond between yourself and your unborn child. The process continued after his birth to the extent that his life is at least as important to you as your own. When he cries in pain or hunger, you suffer in sympathetic response; when he experiences joy, you feel something close to ecstasy. Consequently, you have two extremely good reasons to ensure his comfort and welfare: to avoid anguish when he's unhappy; and to receive that emotional high you feel every time he laughs. All of this is geared to ensure his survival (and therefore the perpetuation of the species). If you didn't care whether he's happy or sad, you wouldn't go the whole nine yards to make sure he survives to maturity.

Love is an emotional connection that makes you feel at one with the world through the other person. We all want to feel in harmony with the universe. What could be better? But the flip side is that the very person who we think might be able to offer us this connection has the potential to betray us, thus leading to the opposite: feeling alone, abandoned, and vulnerable.

My definition is to care about, or appreciate something so much- to the max.
It hurts because something usually happens to the thing/person you love or you fear that something will happen to it because you take care of it so intensely.
On the other hand- it is something to enjoy as intensely if all is well, or safe, with that thing or person you love so much!

Condensed version: Opening your heart to someone else, It'll hurt because of the vounerability of the situation. Think of it in literal terms; if your chest is open to access your heart for a surgery or somthing like that, you can get some serious infections or probobly die.

So your opening up emotional barriers to let someone in which is pretty damn fragile.

When My son gets sick it's the most hearbreaking feeling ever. When he smiles and laughs I couldn't feel anymore alive. My son is the definition of love to me.

Love is what you make it. It can be as simple as the man who takes your breath away....for me its that feeling you get in your stomach. Either way its just plain wonderful. And those holes can be filled in again...you just have to find the right guy.
