that's a tough call. Weather Report was the origonal, but Maynard Ferguson's version is just great. The version my high school jazz band played was in F, this one is in G, not to mention it has all sorts of stuff that our arrangement didn't have. I could do without the intro thing in Maynard's version, but other than that I'd choose that one.

Weather Reports version is superior. Manhattan Transfer also has a great version of Birdland.

This is a hard choice. I'd have to go with the original from Weather Report, but they are BOTH good! I would have to put the Manhattan Transfer version as second or third on the list, too!

I grew up on Weather Reports but love Fergusons because it is more exciting. I think that is where they go the saying " gonna bust a 'nard
