There's many I want to keep. How do I find peace with him about this?

Your landlord sounds like a clown. If he is worried because books are flamable, well anything is flamable, so he must be either stupid or he knows a state regulation that we don't. I would call city safety inspector over to check your place. While he is checking, ask him about the books. I would also check your lease. If there is nothing about a maximum number of books, I would tell him to piss off.

That depends, actually. You haven't given enough information to answer your question properly.

If your book collection creates an unreasonable hazard, the landlord can require you to correct the condition. If your home is so stacked with books that there are only narrow pathways through the premesis or you have to climb over piles of books strewn about the place to get around, you probably do have an unreasonable hazard.

On the other hand, if your collection is stored neatly on book shelves and book cases, floor loading rates are not exceeded (books ARE heavy!), and there's enough room to move about safely and otherwise use the home as a residence then your landlord probably doesn't have a case.

Well, owning a lot of books says you like to read a lot! Either that, or you're just a book collector. I would advise checking your lease, seeing if there is any mention of your landlord having the right to tell you to remove something from your apartment. I can't see anyone complaining about you having too many books, unless of course you've got thousands of them blocking doorways and stacked from floor to ceiling, which would pose an obvious fire hazard. But if they are neatly stored (on shelves, in boxes, etc) I don't see why anyone would have a problem with them! Check out your lease, and talk to your landlord about it, make sure you're hearing what the real issue is. Good luck!!

I would think that if you keep them well organized, and your place is not a clutter then he has no say on what you have in ur place, these are YOUR belongings!! If stuff is not blockin doorways or in any way a safety hazard then he has no say. He shouldn't have say regardless .. unless there is damage to his property. Just organize, good luck.
