I want to start a small potted plan garden on my patio, and I was wondering which ones are good to start with? I was looking for ones that did not need a ton of attention, or special needs.

PS- I love u guys here on yahoo, I've received some great advice here! :)

I hate to be this way but it's essential to know whether you have sun or shade. And what part of the country you live in.

I'm from the south so I will assume: full sun and lots of heat.
Perriwinkles or Wave petunias for color. Or try a lantana if it's really hot where you are. Add a lime green sweet potato vine for lots of visual interest.

For shade you cant beat impatiens or angelwing begonias. Or try jew or Sweedish ivy.

Use the biggest pots you can find. They hold more soil and more water so the plants don't dry out as badly. If you use miracle grow potting soil you are assured success as it has everything a plant needs to flourish.

Lipstick plants I have found are easily grown from cuttings
( just poke them in the ground) and there is a wonderful colourful display

Are you looking for food or flowers? Strawberries and tomatoes are good. I also put lettuce in with my flowers in pots, it looks nice. Carrots do well in pots but aren't very interesting to look at.

Geraniums are easy. Herbs such as thyme or rosemary don't require a lot of care.
