I just this semester took a class called Courts and the Criminal Justice System. I am a criminal justice major. My teacher was a former public defender for several years. He made this statement to our class - "All that a public defender does is practice criminal law". I had asked him why people tend to have such a low opinion of public defenders and he said that actually, they are very good at what they do - the only bad thing is that they don't have alot of time to grant to every case. That is why there are so much plea bargains. Attorneys are trying to get their client the best deal.
Hope this sets your mind at ease some.

Yes. Public defenders are good attorneys. The only problem is,they are pressed for time, they're overwhelmed with work,,and many times are young and just out of law school. You will get good legal representation, but you won't get a OJ defense. For that you need the $$$$.

Here we go again... playing the race card.

If he's guilty, he can rot in jail. If not, then he should be let free.

But I'm tired of everyone playing the race card for no reason.

A few months ago, right down the street from my house, a black male shot at the police as they tried to arrest him for selling drugs. The police shot back, striking the man in the head and chest/arm(?) killing him instantly. Riots ensued, saying the "racist" police "murdered" him.

Better get a real lawyer, a public defender has cases galore to handle, and he is not going to be wasting too much time on your case, other than going through the motions of doing something.
