you could do the polite thing and ask, or do the not-so-polite move of grabbing their crotches. i prefer to ask.

From the name? That's easy in Germany. When you want to give a name to you child and one cannot find out exactly from the name if it's for a boy or a girl (like the names Kim oder Kia, they are unisex names here) than you have to give a second name to your child showing the exact sex. So, you simply has to ask for him or hers second name and you'll know it ;-)

If they are wearing PINK Socks, it's a GIRL

according to my 6 year old, if they like macaroni and cheese they are a girl, if they do not like it, they are a boy!
